How is a steam room installed in Dubai?
In 8 stages, each closed before the next one starts: survey, measured drawings, waterproofing, generator position, services, fit-out, flood test and commissioning. Most problems we see on Dubai sites come from a stage that was skipped because the tiler was already on site. The table shows what each stage fixes.

How long does steam room installation take?
Turnkey time depends on scope: about 2 weeks for a single sauna, up to 6 months for large projects. A single steam room in a villa with a ready shell sits at the short end; a hotel spa with several wet rooms and its own plant room sits at the long end.
Where a new electrical load needs approval, that time comes on top.
The fastest projects are the ones where stages 1 to 5 are agreed before the contractor builds the walls. Moving a drain or a steam inlet after tiling costs more time than any other change.
What does waterproofing need before the tiles go on?
A continuous membrane over the floor, walls and ceiling, with every penetration sealed. A steam room runs at 40–50 °C at close to 100 % relative humidity, so vapour is pushed into every gap: pipe sleeves, light fittings, the steam head and the door frame.
Each of these crossings is detailed on the drawings and sealed with a collar before the adhesive goes on.
The floor falls to a drain, the ceiling slopes so condensate runs down the walls rather than dripping on the bench, and the bench is built on the waterproofed shell, not through it.
Where does the steam generator go?
Outside the room, in a ventilated plant space or cupboard with service access, as close to the room as the maker allows. The unit needs 3 connections of its own: power, a water feed and a drain, and the steam line rises towards the room so condensate drains back.
The generator’s output is chosen from the room volume and wall finish using the maker’s selection, not by rule of thumb, so no kW figure is written before the drawings are fixed.

What does the client’s MEP contractor provide?
4 things, each to the position marked on our drawings: power, water, a drain and an extract. We send the services schedule before the walls are built and check every point on site at the survey stage, so the MEP contractor does not have to guess heights or routes.
- Power: a dedicated supply to the generator with an isolator outside the room, sized to the selected unit.
- Water: a cold water feed with a shut-off valve at the generator.
- Drain: a floor drain in the room and a drain under the generator.
- Extract: a controlled extract to clear the room between sessions.
How is a steam room tested before handover?
In 2 steps. First the wet shell is flood tested before finishes, with the drain plugged and the water level marked, then inspected for any drop or damp. Then the finished room is commissioned until it holds 40–50 °C at close to 100 % relative humidity.
During commissioning the controls, temperature sensor, lighting and emergency switch are checked, and the owner or facility team is shown how to run and clean the room.
The handover file includes the as-built drawing, the generator manual and service interval, and the warranty: 24-month warranty on workmanship and manufacturing; 24-month manufacturer’s warranty on electrical and mechanical equipment; 5-year warranty on structure and waterproofing.
What changes the cost of the installation?
4 things: the room size and finish, the generator, the amount of glass and the state of the shell when we arrive. A room that needs its floor raised for drain falls, or a new electrical supply, costs more than one with these ready.

Steam room installation across the UAE
Short answer: a steam room runs at 40–50 °C and close to 100 % relative humidity in every emirate, so the build sequence is the same: sealed shell, waterproofing, sloped ceiling, drain and a steam generator sized to the room. We coordinate projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates from our Dubai office in Latifa Tower (WTC).
What differs by emirate is paperwork, not physics:
- Utility connection for the generator: DEWA in Dubai, TAQA Distribution in Abu Dhabi, the local utility elsewhere.
- Water supply and drain points approved with the MEP consultant before tiling.
- Delivery and site time: our own installation team builds the room on site; the project is coordinated from Dubai.

Is a steam room in Abu Dhabi built differently from one in Dubai?
No. The room is the same; the utility (TAQA Distribution instead of DEWA) and the approval office change.

Frequently asked questions about steam room installation in Dubai
Can a steam room be installed in an apartment in Dubai?
Yes, if the bathroom or room has a drain, a route for the steam line to a generator outside the room and a dedicated electrical supply. The survey checks these 3 points first, along with any building or community approval the tower needs.
What temperature does a steam room run at?
40–50 °C at close to 100 % relative humidity. Commissioning confirms that the room reaches and holds this range with the door closed before handover, and the sensor position is checked so the controller reads the room, not the steam head.
Why is the steam generator outside the room?
For service access and safety. The unit needs a drain, a water feed and space to open its cabinet, and none of these belong inside a wet room at close to 100 % humidity. Outside, it is serviced without entering the room.
Is a flood test really needed?
Yes. Holding the wet shell under water before finishes is the cheapest moment to find a leak. After the mosaic is down, the same leak means removing finished tiles, drying the screed and waterproofing the area again, which can add weeks.
How long does installation take?
Turnkey time depends on scope: about 2 weeks for a single sauna, up to 6 months for large projects; a single steam room with a ready shell sits at the short end. Approval for a new electrical load comes on top.
