Spa and Wellness Design and Build
Short answer: A spa and wellness area is a set of rooms that use heat, water and cold in sequence — sauna, hammam, steam room, cold plunge, salt room, treatment and rest. Sauna Dekor Spa Solutions designs the circuit, manufactures the rooms in its own facility in İkitelli OSB, Istanbul, and installs them in hotels and villas across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the wider GCC.

What should you know before building a spa?

What do we manufacture, and what is bought in?
In a turnkey spa we make the sauna cabins, the hammam marble and basins, the steam room shell and the cold plunge shell ourselves, in our workshop in İkitelli OSB, Istanbul, where we have manufactured since 1987. Heaters come from EOS or Harvia and steam generators from Condair; their certification belongs to the manufacturer. Ask for this split and the structure and waterproofing warranty in writing when you compare companies. Our warranty: 24-month warranty on workmanship and manufacturing; 24-month manufacturer's warranty on electrical and mechanical equipment; 5-year warranty on structure and waterproofing.

In what order is a spa built?
In 5 stages: waterproofing of the wet rooms, services and ventilation, the steam room and hammam finishes, the sauna cabin installation and, last, commissioning. The waterproofing is tested for tightness before it is covered. A single sauna takes about 2 weeks from order; large spa projects with a full thermal circuit can take up to 6 months.

Which rooms make up a spa?
A spa has hot, wet, cold and rest zones; which ones are built depends on the floor area and on how the operator will use it. The 8 we build most often in hotels and villas: a Finnish sauna at 80–100 °C; a steam room at 40–50 °C close to 100 % relative humidity; a Turkish hammam with room air at 40–50 °C and a heated platform at 40–45 °C; a cold plunge pool from 2 to 15 °C; a snow room at about −10 °C; a salt room; massage room design; and a relaxation room.

Four wet rooms on one corridor
In a private residence we connected a sauna, a steam room, a Turkish hammam and a jacuzzi to a single corridor, so the user moves between the four rooms on a closed, dry floor; see the private residence spa. Where dry and wet rooms open onto the same corridor, the moisture path is drawn at the start.

Which permits come first?
Permits are settled before the architecture, and they differ for a spa inside a hotel, a sports club or a stand-alone centre. A sauna or a hammam is a room with special construction requirements, so plan it together with the permit file. We prepare the technical documentation for the file; the application is made by the operator. Our guide on how to open a spa centre covers the documents and the area programme.

Which water, treatment and rest rooms do we build?
5 rooms between the hot and the cold side of a spa, each with its own sizing, materials and services: jacuzzis and hot tubs, shower systems, massage room design, relaxation rooms and heated relaxation loungers. They come together on our spa and wellness page.
Jacuzzi and hot tubs
Wellis hot tubs or built-in hydromassage pools, with filtration, dosing and controls planned with the room.
Shower systems
Valves, heads, outlets and controls as one system; experience showers add scent, light and sound.
Massage room design
Treatment rooms sized around the table and the therapist's working space, with quiet light and air.
Relaxation room
The last stop of the circuit: lounger count from capacity, quiet light and wipe-clean surfaces.
Heated relaxation lounger
Contoured stone, marble, ceramic or mosaic loungers with a heating circuit inside.

How do the cold rooms compare: plunge, ice, snow and cryotherapy?
The cold step sits at the exit of the heat rooms, a few steps away; a cold room placed far from the sauna is not used.
