Short answer: hammam design in 2027 still rests on four fixed elements: warm room air at 40–50 °C, a heated marble platform, basins with running water and a sealed, drained shell. What changes is where hammams are built, now more often in private villas, and how they are lit and controlled. A home hammam takes 3–8 weeks to build. Sauna Dekor Spa Solutions designs and builds them.

What are the fixed elements of a hammam?

Four. The room air is kept at 40–50 °C with high humidity. A heated platform, the göbek taşı, sits at the centre. Basins (kurna) with hot and cold water stand along the walls. The shell under the stone is waterproofed and drained. Every hammam design starts from these 4 and changes only their size and finish.

The platform has its own surface value of 40–45 °C, set separately from the room air.

How is a hammam laid out?

A traditional hammam moves from a warm room to a hot room, with a changing or rest room outside. In villas the sequence often shrinks to 1 hot room with a platform and 1 or 2 basins, plus a shower and a rest area. Two basins should sit at least 1.20 m apart.

Element Typical value we use (made to order)
Basin top height 85–90 cm
Basin bowl diameter 45–60 cm
Basin bowl depth 20–25 cm
Distance between two basins at least 1.20 m
Basins in a 6-person hammam 2
Basin flow 12–15 l/min
Water to the basin 40–45 °C

These are typical values from our projects; every hammam's dimensions are set for its room and made to order.

What changes in hammam design for 2027?

Three shifts show up in the briefs we receive. Private villa hammams are a larger share of requests; lighting and controls are more integrated; and water use is designed rather than assumed. GWI's 2025 hydrothermal trends name water sustainability and immersive, multisensory design among the 5 directions for the sector.

In the UAE, search data points the same way for homes: hammam visit searches in Dubai fell from 1,600 to 1,000 a month between October 2025 and September 2026 (Google Ads, UAE), while villa owners increasingly ask for one at home.

Which materials are used in a hammam?

Marble is traditional for the platform and basins. Walls and domes can be marble, natural stone, tile or a sealed mineral finish. More important than the finish is the waterproofing layer behind it and a ceiling that slopes, so condensation runs to the walls. We give 5 years on structure and waterproofing on every project.

How is a hammam heated and kept humid?

The platform is heated from below, and the room air is warmed and humidified by a steam generator or a heating system sized to the room. The steam generator is made by its manufacturer, for example Condair or EOS, who holds that product's certificate. The generator's position and service access go on the drawings early.

Our step-by-step build guide is how to build a hammam, and the room types are on the hammam product page.

How long does a hammam take to build?

For homes, 3–8 weeks of site work; large hotel or institutional projects take up to 12 weeks. Approvals, marble selection and stone lead times come before that, so a villa hammam planned for 2027 should be on the drawings at least a few months before site work starts.

What should a hammam design check before tiling?

Five checks: drain positions and floor falls, a flood-tested waterproofing layer, ceiling slope, platform heating tested, and basin supply and waste connected. Changing any of the 5 after the marble is fixed means breaking finished stone, which is the most expensive repair in a wet room.

Is a Moroccan bath designed differently?

No. A Moroccan bath uses the same room as a Turkish hammam; the difference is the ritual, with black soap and scrubbing. The design adds only what the ritual needs, such as a wash area and storage. For villa projects in the UAE, see our hammam page for Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature is a hammam?

The room air is kept at 40–50 °C with high humidity. The heated marble platform is a separate value, with a surface at 40–45 °C, and the two are controlled independently of each other.

How big does a home hammam need to be?

Big enough for the platform, at least 1 basin with standing room around it and an outward-opening door. Many villa hammams fit in a room the size of a large bathroom.

How high should hammam basins be?

A typical basin top height is 85–90 cm, with a bowl diameter of 45–60 cm and a depth of 20–25 cm. Basins are made to order, so the final dimensions follow the room and its users.

Can a hammam be built in an apartment?

Yes, if the floor build-up allows drainage falls and waterproofing and the building management approves the works. The drain position is usually the deciding factor in an apartment tower, so we check it first.

Who builds the steam generator?

Its manufacturer, for example Condair or EOS, who holds that product's certificate. We design and build the hammam, its waterproofing, stone work and installation, and integrate the generator into the room's controls.

How often is this page updated?

Every quarter, next in February 2027. Search figures are re-pulled and every trend statement is re-checked against its source; anything that cannot be verified again is removed from the page.
