Overview
Sauna Dekor is a sauna, hammam and spa manufacturer and turnkey contractor. We have built thermal areas since 1987, we are in our 40th year, and our joinery, marble and cabin work is produced in our own workshop in İkitelli, Istanbul before it ships. Projects have been delivered in more than 35 countries.
This page records the residents’ spa and fitness fit-out at Gumush Residence in Baku,Azerbaijan. The zones listed for the project are sauna, relaxation room, steam rooms, fitnessand sport centre, shock bucket, Turkish bath, hammam and ice fountain.
Scope of work
One of the broadest packages on this portfolio: a marble hammam, a sauna, steam rooms,treatment rooms, a relaxation area, the cold side — an ice fountain and a shock bucket — andthe fitness centre fit-out including decorative mashrabiya screens and joinery. Our photographicrecord covers all of it. The contract ran from room build-up and tanking through stone, mosaicand joinery to equipment, ventilation terminals, drainage and commissioning.
When the spa and the joinery are one contract
A package this wide is normally split between a wet-area contractor and a fit-out joiner,and the split is where the problems appear: the joiner’s screens meet the wet contractor’stanking, and neither owns the junction. Taking both under one contract removes that argument.It also lets the same workshop that cuts the marble produce the screens and the benching, sothe geometry of a mashrabiya panel can be set out against the stone grid rather than fitted towhatever is left. The cold side and the wet side together
An ice fountain and a shock bucket in the same area as a hammam and steam rooms means hot,humid air and cold surfaces a few metres apart, and the space between them is wherecondensation forms. Each cold appliance needs its own drainage rather than a shared floor gully— an ice machine produces meltwater and condensate continuously, and a shock bucket deliversits whole volume at once, which a general floor fall will not clear. Heated marble, air zoning and tanking
The hammam is heated through its slab, navel stone and benches warmed from below, with slabthickness and circuit spacing set together and a soak period before use. Air is zoned by roomtype: sauna supply low at the heater with low extract opposite; hammam and steam rooms oncontinuous extract that runs past closing; relaxation, treatment and fitness areas kept dry andslightly positive against the wet circuit so humidity does not migrate onto upholstery,mirrors and equipment. Wet rooms were tanked before finishes — bonded membrane over the screed,tape into corners, movement joints and penetrations, falls in the screed, epoxy grout above.
What we solved on site
The scheduling problem on a package this broad is that the wet trades and the joinery wantopposite site conditions: tanking and screeds need a wet, uncontrolled environment, decorativejoinery needs a dry, finished one. We sequenced the two so the wet zones were closed out anddried before any screen or panel was delivered, and used the numbered-lot delivery system tokeep finished joinery out of the building until it was ready for it.
