Sauna Manufacturing in Minnesota: Tradition Meets Modern Wellness

Sauna Dekor Spa Solutions is a sauna manufacturer that builds sauna rooms in its own facility in Istanbul and ships them to Minnesota as engineered kits, installed by a licensed local contractor under our supervision. That is how sauna manufacturing in Minnesota works for us. A Finnish sauna built this way runs at 80–100 °C, and its interior is lined in ayous or pine.

Minnesota’s sauna habit comes largely from Finnish immigrants who settled around Lake Superior in the late 19th century and built saunas on farms and lakeshores. Long winters kept the custom going, and the state now has public saunas, clubs and home builders, many of them listed by the North American Sauna Society.

Most requests fall into 4 groups: a home sauna in a basement or bathroom, a cabin or lakeside sauna, an outdoor sauna on a deck, and a club or hotel room. Each one needs a heater sized to the room volume, a vapour barrier behind the timber and a working ventilation path.

• Home sauna: a Finnish room at 80–100 °C, with the sauna insulation and vapour barrier built into the wall.
• Cabin and outdoor sauna: insulated walls, roof and floor, because the room starts from a cold shell in winter.
• Infrared cabin: infrared sauna cabins run at 45–60 °C air temperature.
• Club or hotel room: larger heaters, a dedicated circuit and the sauna electrical requirements agreed with the electrician.

A steam room runs at 40–50 °C close to 100% humidity, and the cold plunge pools we build hold water from 2 to 15 °C. A Finnish sauna runs at 80–100 °C with low humidity, and an infrared cabin keeps its air at 45–60 °C because the panels heat the body directly.

We build sauna interiors in ayous and pine, with aspen and alder on request. Ayous is light, has few resin pockets and stays comfortable to sit on; pine gives a traditional look. Bench boards are fixed from below, so no screw heads sit on the upper tier at 80–100 °C. More in our guide to sauna wood.

We do not run an installation crew in the United States. We manufacture the room, heater package and controls, send shop drawings and load schedules, and a licensed local electrician and carpenter install to those drawings under NFPA 70. Our engineers supervise set-out and commissioning, managed from our Boston office.

Workmanship and manufacturing carry a 24-month warranty, the electrical and mechanical equipment carries a 24-month manufacturer’s warranty, and structure and waterproofing carry a 5-year warranty. Heaters and control units are made by their own manufacturers, such as EOS, and the product certificates for them belong to those manufacturers.
