A private villa sauna in Dubai
Sauna Dekor is a sauna, hammam and spa manufacturer and turnkey contractor, founded in Istanbul in 1987, now in our 40th year, with thermal rooms delivered in more than 35 countries. This page documents a cabin we designed, manufactured and installed in a private villa in Dubai in 2026 — a dry Finnish sauna with a panoramic glass front, a backlit salt band and two tiers of bench, delivered as one package rather than split across trades.
What was built
A free-standing cabin in the corner of the villa’s wellness room. The front is almost entirely glass: two fixed panels and a hinged glass door. Benches run in an L on two levels in pale, close-grained timber, and a band of backlit salt brick crosses the walls at upper-bench height, turning the corner unbroken. The floor is a slatted duckboard; a floor-standing stone heater sits beside the door inside a slatted timber guard. The fittings are deliberately analogue — a twin-dial thermometer and hygrometer, a fifteen-minute sand timer on the door jamb, a wooden bucket and ladle. Cabin, glazing, benching, lighting, salt wall and heater came from one contractor.
The design decisions behind it
A glass front, and what it costs in heat
The panoramic front lets the cabin read as part of the room rather than as a box in a corner. That is paid for in the heater sizing, not discovered afterwards: roughly 1 kW per cubic metre of insulated volume, plus about 1 kW for every square metre of glass or other uninsulated surface. Glass re-radiates heat instead of storing it, and stretches recovery time between sessions.
The salt band as a light source
The salt brick band is a lighting and surface element. Lit from behind at upper-bench height, it puts a warm horizontal line at about the eye level of a seated bather, so the cabin reads as calm rather than dim. Backlit brick in a hot room needs a ventilated cavity, fixings that let a brick be lifted out for cleaning, and clearance from the heater’s radiant field. Carrying it around the corner unbroken was set out at manufacture, not cut on site.
Two bench tiers, not three
The lower tier is deep enough to lie on and doubles as the step; the upper tier carries the heat. Both have slatted backrests and loose headrest wedges rather than fixed cushions, so nothing traps moisture against timber. The L lets a bather sit across the room from the stove or alongside it.
Light kept below the line of sight
There is no ceiling downlight. Two hidden lines do the work: the salt band, and a strip under the front edge of each bench tier washing down onto the floor. Someone lying on the upper bench looks at unbroken timber, and the same strip keeps the step edge readable.
A duckboard floor
The floor is a removable slatted deck over the structural slab. Water thrown at the stones drains through the gaps instead of standing on a finished surface, and the deck lifts out in sections so the void beneath can be dried and cleaned.
Why the heater is guarded
A floor-standing body carries a deeper stone charge, which gives a rounder release when water is thrown, but it also puts a hot surface at shin height beside a walking route. The slatted guard fixes a clearance, and because it is drawn into the bench layout, that clearance is designed rather than negotiated on site.
What surrounds the cabin
In Dubai the conditions outside a sauna matter as much as those inside it. Villa wellness rooms here are air-conditioned, so the outer face lives in cooled, dehumidified air while the inner runs hot and dry. We plan for that: an extract run-on cycle that dries the cabin after use, control gear outside the hot zone, and an electrical connection reachable without dismantling joinery.
Fitting a cabin into an unfinished room
The photographs show the cabin standing in a room that is still shell — bare concrete, protective sheeting, unfinished masonry to one side. It was manufactured to the room’s surveyed dimensions rather than to a nominal drawing, and set out from the corner so the two visible faces stayed square while tolerance was absorbed against the walls nobody will ever see. The heater position was fixed early because it drives the guard, the bench return and the door swing.

How much glass can a sauna cabin have?
As much as the heater sizing accounts for. Glass does not hold heat the way an insulated timber wall does, so every square metre of glazing is added to the heater calculation on top of the roughly 1 kW per cubic metre used for the insulated volume of the cabin.

Can a cabin be built into a room that is not finished yet?
That is the easier sequence, not the harder one. Manufacturing to a surveyed room and installing before the finishes go down keeps floor levels, service positions and the corner set-out adjustable.

Our own certification is TS EN ISO 9001:2015 quality management, covering sauna and spa product manufacturing and after-sales service. The heaters and controls we install carry CE / EN 60335, TÜV and GS approvals from their own manufacturers.
