Overview
Sauna Dekor has been building saunas, hammams, steam rooms and wet spa areas since 1987 — this is our 40th year. We manufacture in İkitelli, Istanbul and take single-point responsibility for design, production, installation and commissioning. More than 35 countries to date.
This project is a private sauna for a home in Cologne, Germany. The owner is not named; thepage records the city, the property type and the work. The zone listed for the project is asauna.
Scope of work
A dry-heat cabin for a private house: the insulated structure, linings and benching, theheater and control, glazing, lighting, and the ventilation and electrical interfaces.Manufactured and dry-assembled in our Istanbul workshop, dismantled, numbered, shipped andinstalled.
Specifying for the German way of using a sauna
German sauna culture is built around the Aufguss — water poured onto hot stones, often withthe heat then moved around the room. That is not a decorative detail; it changes the equipment.A cabin used this way needs a heater with a genuinely large stone mass, because the stones, notthe elements, are what deliver the burst of steam, and a small stone charge simply spits andcools. It also needs the top bench high enough and deep enough to take the effect, andventilation that clears the room between rounds rather than leaving it stale. A cabinspecified for occasional dry use will disappoint someone who expects an Aufguss, whatever theheater rating says. Seesauna heater types andhow to use a sauna.
Heat load, certification and connection
General practice sizes a domestic cabin at roughly a kilowatt of output per cubic metre ofvolume, with additions for glazing and for masonry surfaces inside the envelope. In Germany theheater is connected by a local electrician to the national wiring rules, normally on athree-phase circuit above a modest rating. The equipment carries CE and EN 60335 certificationfrom its own manufacturer, which is what permits that installation; our own certificate isTS EN ISO 9001:2015 quality management, covering how we manufacture and support the cabin. Thetwo are separate and we do not conflate them.
Cabin build-up and ventilation
The cabin is an insulated box: insulation, a continuous foil vapour barrier with taped laps,a ventilated cavity, then the internal lining. That barrier keeps the moisture the cabingenerates out of the house — a lining fixed straight to masonry pushes it into the structureevery session. Air enters low, near or under the heater, and leaves low on the opposite side, ducted somewhere that can accept warm moist air, with an adjustable extract so a household thatuses plenty of water can set it differently from one that runs dry. Linings and benching arekiln-dried, low-resin timber with concealed fixings and lift-out bench tops. More atsauna ventilation.
What we solved on site
The route into the room, not the room itself, set the panel sizes. We surveyed the access, built and dry-assembled the whole cabin in ourIstanbul workshop to prove every joint, thendismantled it into numbered panels that would pass the stair and door openings. Installationwas assembly and connection, with nothing cut in the house. Seeluxury home sauna andsauna.
Frequently asked questions
What does an Aufguss require from the heater?
A genuinely large stone mass. The stones, not the elements, deliver the burst of steam when water is poured, so a small stone charge spits and cools instead of producing the effect people expect.
Which certification applies to a sauna heater in Germany?
CE and EN 60335, held by the equipment manufacturer — that is what permits the installation. Sauna Dekor’s own certificate is TS EN ISO 9001:2015 quality management, which is a different thing.
Why is an adjustable extract worth having at home?
Because households use saunas differently. A family that ladles plenty of water needs a different extract setting from one that runs the room dry, and a fixed grille suits only one of them.
Who connects the heater?
A local electrician, to the national wiring rules, normally on a three-phase circuit above a modest rating. We supply the equipment, specification and terminations.

Sauna Dekor’s own certification is TS EN ISO 9001:2015 quality management, covering sauna and spa product manufacturing and after-sales service. The equipment we install carries CE / EN 60335, TÜV, GS, GREENGUARD Gold, FSC and VDI 6022 certification from its own manufacturers — EOS, Sentiotec and Condair among them.
