Short answer: wedi building board is a waterproof building board made by wedi in Germany. Sauna Dekor specifies and installs it in the rooms we build; the product and its certificates are the manufacturer's.

The core of the board is extruded polystyrene rigid foam; from 3 mm thickness upwards it does not let water through. It is light, dimensionally stable and thermally insulating. It is cut with a utility knife, a hand saw or a jigsaw, and bonds to almost any surface, including concrete, brick, plasterboard, timber and old ceramic. Absorbent mineral surfaces (cement and gypsum render) need a primer first. The surface takes ceramic directly, with no separate screed or waterproofing layer required.

What the wedi building board is

The core of the board is extruded polystyrene rigid foam, and from 3 mm thickness upwards it is waterproof — so the waterproofing is not a separate layer but the load-bearing layer itself. Both faces are coated with reinforced cement mortar, so the board takes ceramic directly; the screed and liquid-applied waterproofing step disappears. It is cut with a utility knife, a hand saw or a jigsaw. It can be bonded to concrete, brick, plasterboard, timber, plaster and old ceramic; absorbent mineral surfaces such as cement and gypsum plaster need priming first. The same body has four variants: XL and XXL, Vapor with a vapour barrier on one face, Construct with factory-cut channels, and PreLine with grooves for underfloor heating pipe.
