Overview
Sauna Dekor is a sauna, hammam and spa manufacturer and turnkey contractor. We have built thermal areas since 1987, we are in our 40th year, and our joinery, marble and cabin work is produced in our own workshop in İkitelli, Istanbul before it ships. Projects have been delivered in more than 35 countries.
This project is a private sauna in a villa in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The owner is notnamed; the page records the city, the property type and the work. The zone listed for theproject is a sauna.
Scope of work
A dry-heat cabin built into a private house: the insulated cabin structure, internal liningsand benching, the heater and its control, glazing, lighting, and the ventilation and electricalinterfaces with the building. Manufactured and dry-assembled in our Istanbul workshop, thendismantled, numbered, shipped and installed.
Delivering a cabin from Istanbul to the Netherlands
Exporting a fitted room is a different discipline from building one locally. Nothing can beadjusted on arrival without cost, so the entire cabin is assembled dry in the workshop, checkedjoint by joint, then taken apart and numbered piece by piece, with its fixings, seals and aspares allowance travelling in the same load. Our own certification is ISO 9001 qualitymanagement, which is exactly the kind of process this depends on; the heater and controlequipment carries CE and EN 60335 certification from its own manufacturer, which is what makesit legal to install on a European domestic circuit. Those are two different things and we keepthem clearly separate. See services.
Heat load and the electrical connection
General practice sizes a domestic cabin at roughly a kilowatt of stone-heater output percubic metre of volume, with additions for glazing and for any masonry surface inside theenvelope. In a Dutch house the supply is the practical constraint: heaters above a modestrating need a three-phase connection, and the available capacity should be confirmed with theinstaller before the cabin is designed rather than after the joinery has been drawn.Connection itself is carried out by a local electrician to the national wiring rules — wesupply the equipment, the specification and the terminations, and the local trade makes thefinal connection. A maritime climate and the vapour barrier
Amsterdam is damp for most of the year, so the cabin build-up matters more than it wouldinland. It is an insulated box: insulation, a continuous foil vapour barrier with taped laps,a ventilated cavity, then the internal lining, so the back of every board can dry betweensessions. The barrier is what protects the house — a cabin lined directly onto a masonry wallpushes moisture into the structure every time it runs. Air enters low, near or under theheater, and leaves low on the opposite side, ducted somewhere that can accept warm moist airrather than vented into the next room. Seesauna ventilation andsauna.
What we solved on site
Dutch houses have narrow stairs and tight door openings, and a fully built cabin does notpass either. The cabin was dry-assembled and checked in ourIstanbul workshop, then dismantled into panelssized for the access route surveyed in advance, numbered, and reassembled on site with nocutting. That survey — measuring the route, not just the room — is the step that decideswhether an imported cabin goes in smoothly or has to be modified in someone’s hallway. Seeluxury home sauna.
Frequently asked questions
How is a sauna exported without on-site adjustment?
It is fully dry-assembled and checked in the workshop, then dismantled and numbered piece by piece, with fixings, seals and a spares allowance in the same load, so nothing on site depends on a part that would take weeks to replace.
Who makes the electrical connection abroad?
A local electrician, to the national wiring rules. We supply the equipment, the specification and the terminations; the heater and control carry CE and EN 60335 certification from their own manufacturer.
What is measured before a cabin is shipped?
The access route as well as the room. Stairs, landings and door openings decide the panel sizes the cabin is dismantled into — surveying only the room is what leads to modifications in someone’s hallway.
Does a damp climate change the cabin build-up?
It makes the ventilated cavity behind the lining more important, so the back of every board can dry between sessions, along with a continuous foil vapour barrier that keeps the cabin’s moisture out of the house.
